Enhancing cooperation with Russia



Deputy Minister for Defence Miroslav Jovanovic received the members of the Defence Attaché Office of the Russian Federation, headed by Colonel Valery Volkov for talks on enhancing cooperation in the defence field.

During the extremely open discussion, the compliance of the planned activities concerning the preservation of sovereignty and territorial integrity of Serbia in Kosovo and Metohija was confirmed.

The Republic of Serbia under no circumstances will give up military neutrality proclaimed by the Declaration of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia and in accordance with that commitment Serbia wishes to build partnerships on an equal footing with all friendly countries in the world.

Both sides stressed the need to bring cooperation in defence to the level of general relations that exist in all other areas of cooperation between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Serbia.

Both sides also confirmed the need for military- to-military, military-economic and military-medical cooperation to be significantly improved through better planning and implementation of the annual plans of bilateral military cooperation, and the military-educational cooperation to continue with increasing presence of Russian officers in our military and educational institutions.

Consideration was also given to other aspects of defence cooperation and reiterated the interest of both sides to organize activities at the highest level.

The aim of the visit to the centre and the facility of "Ravnjak" was a tour and introduction to the joint activities in connection with the exercise of the OPCW Inspectorate under the title "The investigation into the case of alleged use of chemical weapons", which has been realised in Krusevac from 8th to19th October 2012. The responsible structure for implementing the exercise is OPCW, and the members of the city provided logistical and technical support for the implementation of that activity.
