Implementation of the humanitarian law in armed conflict



Deputy Minister for Defence Miroslav Jovanovic met with the director of ISAC Fund Nikola Petrovic and DAs of the Netherlands, Norway and Canada, on the occasion of the opening of this year's course "Law in armed conflict."

Since 2006 more than 150 domestic and foreign participants the course which is held at the Center for Peacekeeping Operations.

In addition to long-term support of the ISAC Fund and the Netherlands, this year Norway, the United Kingdom and Canada became involved into the project.

The Ministry of Defence has endorsed a strategy to organize the course from 2012 to 2014 year, which will contribute to capacity building of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Army to independently conduct the training with the aim of expanding knowledge in the field of application of humanitarian law in armed conflicts.

Members of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Army will actively participate in the implementation of the strategy so as to establish a base of instructors, as a good basis for further execution of courses in the field of international humanitarian law.

Furthermore, the priorities of the Ministry of Defence had been presented including the results of defense reforms so far, in hope of finding new ways to intensify bilateral cooperation.
