Marking the Day of the 3rd Army Brigade



On the occasion of the Day of the 3rd Army Brigade and 100th anniversary of mobilization of the 2nd Infantry Regiment "Prince Mihailo", a central celebration was held in Prokuplje today.

The ceremony was attended by Serbian Armed Forces Chief of General Staff Lieutenant General Ljubisa Dikovic, heads of Nis, Toplice, Morava and Jablanica districts, mayors, representatives of the Serbian Orthodox Church, local governments, Ministry of Interior, social, economic and cultural life.

Speaking to the citizens and the members of the 3rd Brigade,General Dikovic said that in the famous and rich military history of Serbia there were few units like the 2nd infantry regiment which was characterized by courage, heroism and love for mankind.

"Today, when we look for the ways of prosperity, one of the major pillars is our tradition and history. Deleting our traditions, language and cultural heritage, we delete ourselves, and together with them, we will certainly more easily find the way to friends and live with dignity as citizens of Serbia deserve it", General Dikovic said. He told to the members of the 3rd Brigade and the citizens of Serbia that "today we are creating the army tailored to all citizens of Serbia", and he asked from officers, NCOs and soldiers to be worthy custodians of our tradition of the famous units.

Army Commander Major General Mojsilovic congratulated on the day to the membersof the brigade and citizens of Toplice the jubilee and stressed that members of the brigade effectively performed their tasks in the past period and showed a professional attitude.

The 3rd Brigade Commander Brigadier General Zelimir Glisovic said at the ceremony that the glorious tradition of the Iron Regiment is properly kept, preserved and continued in the 3rd Brigade that celebrates the day when that regiment went to wars for the liberation of Serbia a century ago exactly.

As part of the ceremony, parade of units of the Third Army Brigade was carried out and the citizens were especially delighted by echelon that appeared in replicas of uniforms of the Serbian Army from the First World War.

Guard members performed the drill, and technical display was organized for citizens to show the most modern weapons of the Serbian Armed Forces.
