Minister of Defence meets Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Czech Republic



First Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Aleksandar Vucic met today with the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Czech Republic Lieutenant-General Petr Pavel.

Both sides expressed satisfaction with the achieved level of cooperation that is taking place mostly in the areas of military education, CBRN and logistics. They specially emphasised the great potential in promotion of the military economic cooperation through the exchange of technology in the area of production of arms and military equipment, production and overhaul of aeronautical and technical resources, as well as a joint appearance on third markets. The established cooperation between the two universities of defence is a qualitative step forward in cooperation and allows for exchange experiences in various scientific fields.

Minister Vucic pointed out that Serbia, having in mind the decision on military neutrality, will not join military alliances, but that we would endeavour to use the available mechanisms of the Partnership for Peace.


He thanked the Czech Republic for the support in the European Integration process and assistance in the defence reform. He pointed out that the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces are interested in participating in the work of the Multinational Logistics Coordination Centre of the Armed Forces of the Czech Republic in Prague.

General Pavel offered to the Ministry of Defence the engagement of the members of the Serbian Armed Forces in the Visegrad EU Battle Group and the support by the Czech Republic for the establishment of the regional CBRN Personnel Training Centre in Krusevac. Particular interest was shown in MMA capacities and cooperation of the special units.

They noted the importance of the involvement of armed forces in multinational operations, and the possibility of sharing experiences and joint training.
