State Secretary Nikolic at the South East Defence Ministerial (SEDM) in Sarajevo



State Secretary Aleksandar Nikolic attended the two-day SEDM conference held in Sarajevo.

- The conference, which brings together the largest number of statesmen from the region of Southeast Europe, was an opportunity to highlight the importance that Serbia attaches to active participation in regional security initiatives. The Ministry of Defence is actively involved in maintaining and developing of good neighbourly relations in the region. In this regard, we offer to the region our defence capacities, such as the Defence University, Centre for Peacekeeping Operations, Centre for the destruction of ammunition and weapons, CBRN Centre and South Base, Nikolic said on the occasion of the conference.

He pointed out that this year Serbia began engaging in two European Union crisis management operations which is proof that Serbia continues to contribute to the maintenance of world peace and security.

- We informed the audience about our decision for 2013 to deploy a liaison officer from the Serbian Armed Forces to the Command of the peacekeeping brigade – SEEBRIG, which is located in Larissa, Greece, State Secretary Nikolic said.

On the sidelines of a conference, important bilateral meetings were held. The delegation of the Serbian Ministry of Defence met with the Minister of Defence of Bosnia and Herzegovina. At the meeting, both sides expressed interest in cooperation in the framework of the third mission of the Armed Forces, with an emphasis on emergency response.

A constructive meeting was held with the Minister of Defence of the Republic of Slovenia where the issues of mutual interest to promote bilateral cooperation in the defence field were discussed. The Slovenian side is particularly interested in the educational capacities of MMA.
