Minister Vucic meets with the Head of the mission in Cyprus



Vice President of the Serbian Government and Defense Minister Aleksandar Vucic met today with the head of the UN Mission in Cyprus Lisa Butenheim.

At the beginning of the talks, Vucic said that it was a great honor for Serbian soldiers to helping maintain peace in Cyprus, adding he was proud to be on the island with all the members of the high prices of the Serbian army.

- We are proud of our history, and the military is a big part of that history, as Vucic stated.

He expressed his gratitude for the assistance provided by the United Nations Mission of our troops in Cyprus and expressed hope that Serbia would increase the number of troops to UN peacekeeping operations.

The Head of Mission, Lisa Butenheim said she was extremely pleased to be part of the Serbian soldiers mission, emphasizing that they were very professional, well prepared and under good command.

- The Cyprus issue remains unsolved problem, so the goal of our mission is to help Cypriots resolve this situation, stressed Butenhajm.

The United Nations peacekeeping operation in Cyprus UNFICYP currently has a total of 46 members of the Army of Serbia. All members of the Serbian Army contingent were deployed within their respective units on regular activities. They are engaged in the task of monitoring the separation line, preventing the renewal of hostilities between the conflicted parties, while also being engaged on providing support to the implementation of humanitarian operations, as well as establishing and maintening of the rule of law.

Minister Vucic is currently visiting the members of the Serbian Army in Sector 4, base 126, "Stefan Nemanja."
