Military Museum Day Celebration

On the occasion of the Army Museum - 22 August, is now in the gallery of the museum in Kalemegdan exhibition of etchings "Martin Engelbreht and his time” at the opening of the exhibition State Secretary of the Ministry of Defence Zoran Djordjevic congratulated the day to the employees with a desire to promote museum activities in the future.

Cultural values belong to all of us, and that is certainly confirmed by this exhibition, which should motivate similar exhibitions in Belgrade and elsewhere - Djordjevic said, adding that the military museum had prepared retrospective exhibitions and presented them to the public on the occasion of the National Day and the Day of the Army of Serbia. According to him, the Military Museum has an extensive collection of art which refers to certain historical events and figures, representations of weapons and military equipment, which is changing and rich picture of our past.

The director of the Military Museum, Lieutenant Colonel Dragan Milkovic reminded the present of this institution’s rich history, adding that since last year’s day the Museum had hosted more than 35 thousand visitors and around 50 official delegations.

State Secretary Djordjevic presented at today's ceremony military commemorative medal for outstanding contribution to the defense to Radomir Putnik’s descendant Zoran Ivkovic, who has over the years donated to the Military Museum a rich legacy of Serbia’s famous military leaders.

Collection of etchings by Engelbrecht Martin, was made from 1742 to1748th under the name'' The stage of different, so far in Germany unknown soldiers of alien nations''. This exhibition presents until now unseen objects, members and weapons of irregular border troops.

Military Museum, located in the south-east front bastion of the First Belgrade fortress, was established by the Decree of Prince Milan Obrenovic on 22nd August 1878 at the proposal of Colonel Sava Grujic, then minister of the army.
