Wreaths laid at the memorial to Kosovo heroes in Krusevac



On occasion of marking 623rd anniversary of the Battle of Kosovo, and St. Vitus Day, in Krusevac wreaths were laid and state and military honors were paid at the monument to Kosovo heroes.

On behalf of the Ministry of Defense and the Army of Serbia the wreaths were laid by a three-member delegation led by the commander of the Krusevac garrison, Colonel Sinisa Kresovic, while on behalf of Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, the wreaths was laid by Negovan Stankovic, secretary of state.

Furthermore, the delegation of the city of Krusevac, and representatives of organizations dedicated to fostering the tradition of the liberation wars of Serbia also paid tribute to fallen Kosovo heroes.

With a moment of silence and the sounding of anthem ”Boze pravde”, performed by "Knez Lazar" choir before a large number Krusevljani and guests, the memory of the sacred traditions of the Serbian army and the state were evoked.

Before the commemorative ceremony started, a religious procession passed through the city with part of the Knez Lazar’s embalmed remains, carried by members of the Serbian Army. The procession set out from Lazarica church, passed the memorial, reaching the part of the city called Bagdala, where, Bishop of Krusevac David, consecrated the cross as here the works on a new church will start soon.

St. Vitus is a public holiday commemorating the battle on Kosovo in 1389.On this day, according to Orthodox tradition, people do not rejoice, they do not dance or sing, but rather remember the fallen warriors and visit their graves.
