New intensive care unit opens in MMA



Defense Minister Dragan Sutanovac along with the Minister of National Defence of the Republic of Angola Candido Pereiro Dos Santos Van Dunem, today officially put into operation an extended part of the postoperative intensive care unit at the Clinic for Anesthesiology and Resuscitation of the Military Medical Academy. This is a new unit covering 135 square meters, forming part of an intensive care units, with two sections, one for patients who have undergone transplantation, and the other section for cardiac patients.

Expressing his pleasure at being able to open a new part of the intensive care unit with his Angolan counterpart, Sutanovac said that this was the most advanced unit of that kind, in the country and beyond.

1, 1 million EUR have been invested, and the most difficult patients after heart surgery and transplantation will spend the time necessary for recovery here - said Sutanovac reminding that this is just another step in equipping the military health care placing it at the disposal of both military and civilian insurance holders.

Minister Sutanovac stressed that in addition to building and equipping clinics in Angola, MMA and military health care will be included in the training of personnel from Angola at the Military Academy, and in graduate studies in Serbia.

MMA Head Brigadier General prof. Dr. Marijan Novakovic said there had been a need to expand the intensive care unit for a long time now, and this increase in capacity and equipment, and personnel as is expected soon, will bring a significant contribution to the treatment of patients in these two fields of medicine.

According to Minister Van Dunem, the aim of cooperation with Serbia is to start the project of constructing a military hospital, as the will and need for a new military hospital had long existed
- Bearing in mind the revival of relations of our countries, we are encouraged to continue negotiations in this direction with the Serbian authorities but also on other projects - said the Angolan defense minister expressing his hope that the construction of the hospital will be one of the most important elements of this cooperation. After negotiations, now underway, they will be further formalized by signing of several agreements in this field, while the plan of cooperation envisages a visit of the Serbian delegation of experts to Angola soon.
