”The Last Decade” - Exhibition of the works of Sava Sumanovic

The exhibition of the works of Sava Sumanovic "The last decade" was opened In the Gallery of the Central Military Club this evening. It is the part of Odbrana Media Centre’s program for this year's "Night of Museums". At the same time, it is marking 60 years of the work of "Sava Sumanovic" Gallery in Sid and the 70th anniversary of the death of the great artist.

The exhibition was attended by the Minister of Defence Dragan Sutanovac, Chief of Staff of the Serbian Army Forces Lieutenant General Ljubisa Dikovic, Provincial Secretary for Culture and Public Information Milorad Djuric, and many guests from the cultural and public life of the capital.

Opening the exhibition, Minister Sutanovac said that the previous exhibitions changed the concept of the Gallery of the Central Military Club. This year, more than 70 thousand admirers of art walked through this gallery.

- We are aware of the fact that the defence of the country is actually the defence of our identity, culture, history and tradition, of our art - the Defence Minister noted, adding that the galleries and military orchestras have the mission to promote our culture, both in Serbia and abroad.

The Minister expressed satisfaction that the works of such a renowned artist are made available to the public, but also desire to see the works of other great artists exhibited in the very same gallery.
Provincial Secretary Djuric said that exhibited works were the works of an artist who developed his own artistic expression and that the last decade was the most authentic period of his work. He stressed that the Central Military Club once again proved itself to be a true promoter of the real art.

Exhibition "The last decade" includes a selection of 45 works from Sumanovic creative work in Sid, following years of living and working in Paris. Most of his works were painted in 1939 for a very successful exhibition in Belgrade which was dominated by landscape and nude figures. The authors of the exhibition are Ljubica Jukic and Vesna Burojevic, curators of "Sava Sumanovic" Gallery.

The accompanying program is the exhibition "Sava Sumanovic - personal, familial, national" including a selection of photographs and documentary materials about the artist and his family. The author of the exhibition is Radovan Sremac, the director of "Sava Sumanovic" Gallery. Exhibition "The last decade" will be open until 23 June 2012.
