Central Military Club, Military Museum and Museum of Aviation in the "Night of Museums"

As in previous years, this year's “Night of Museums" provided the art lovers with the opportunity to enjoy the rich program of Odbrana Media Center, the Military Museum in Kalemegdan and the Museum of Aviation in Surcin.

According to Lt. Col. Slavoljub Markovic, Director of Odbrana Media Center, in addition to the representative exhibition of the paintings of Sava Sumanovic "The last decade" in the Central Military Club, visitors have the chance to see "Sava Sumanovic - personal, familial, national" and to learn something about the life of the artist and his family from the exhibited documentary material and photographs.

This evening only, the guests of the Central Military Club have been able to see a unique photography exhibition "Memories from the Army." The exhibition depicts the motifs from military service in a humorous and nostalgic way reflecting the time period in which they were made, the pride of the soldiers and creativity of local photographers. This exhibition includes hundreds of photographs from the private collection of Zoran Zivkovic, and the visitors have been given the opportunity to capture their own “memory from the army" in the way it was done long time ago - using photo-boards.

Staterooms of the Central Military Club were once more open to all those who decided to spend a Saturday night in the spirit of this year's slogan - Great fun in museums! Special attention was drawn to the so-called "carved salon" lined up with the exhibits of exceptional artistic value - dining table, chairs without handle, two-piece glass display case, authentic three-armed luxurious chandelier decorated with carving in full plastic and low relief, and decorative covers for radiators in the style of interior. The exhibition galleries of the Central Military Club presented a new permanent exhibition of the works of art from the collection of Odbrana Media Center, which have mostly been exhibited before. The Night of Museums was made even more special by the performance of "Stanislav Bini?ki" artistic ensemble in the Great Gallery of the Central Military Club.

At exactly 18 o'clock, trumpets from the terrace of the Military Museum announced the beginning of the "Night of Museums" and traditional participation of that cultural institution in this evening’s event. In addition to permanent exhibition, visitors of this year's "Night of Museums" were met with an exhibition of old weapons from Asia - an exhibition of objects from the collections of non-European weapons and equipment. The setting includes weapons and military equipment of Japan, China, India and Indonesia. Beside the objects themselves, weapons and equipment, visitors could learn more about the warrior spirit, mentality and tradition of those countries. The Military Museum exhibition was highlighted by the demonstration of the Japanese art of fencing and the Japanese art of forging edged weapons, whereas a Belgrade kendo club "Makoto" demonstrated kendo and iaido swordsmanship.

At the plateau in front of the Museum, visitors participated in the Officer's Ball organized by the Military Academy cadets to show the personality of the officers in the manner in which a respected officer class was once built.

The Museum of Aviation in Surcin offered an outstanding permanent exhibition of large aircrafts, the museum miniatures - models of aircrafts and airplanes, gliders and helicopters. A special curiosity for visitors of the Museum of Aviation in the "Night of Museums" was the opportunity they were given - to become active participants in the program. It was enough to bring an aircraft - helicopter with a remote control, toy or paper plane or a toy from a kinder-egg, and those more skillful had the opportunity to make a paper airplane following the patterns provided by the Museum.
