Sutanovac and Rasmussen on security in Kosovo



Defense Minister Dragan Sutanovac talked with NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen on security in Kosovo and Metohija in the period, with special emphasis on the preparation and the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections on 6 May 2012th year.

Sutanovac welcomed the increase in KFOR troops and their preventive and temporary relocation, with the aim of ensuring the safety of all citizens in Kosovo. Sutanovac insisted that KFOR should ensure smooth elections in Kosovo and Metohija, in accordance with the agreement with the Government of Serbia and the OSCE. He pointed out that there were those in whose interest it was to come up during the election incidents and insisted that the KFOR force of its authority to act preventively in order to avoid them.

NATO Secretary General Rasmussen said that KFOR will maintain its neutral status and will act within the mandate of which is defined by UN Security Council Resolution 1244 and Kumanovo Agreement. The Secretary General of NATO has emphasized that KFOR will do everything to prevent any destabilization and possible conflicts of interest because the KFOR high level of security in Kosovo and Metohija. Sutanovac said that good relations between the Serbian Army and KFOR were of vital importance, and now both sides have to prove that they have the capacity to perform the tasks that lie ahead.
