Lecture on Turkish foreign policy



Deputy Under Secretary for Security Policy in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey Ambassador Mehmet Fatih Jeylana gave a lecture on "Turkey's foreign policy and security", which was held in the Central Militay Club in organization of the Ministry of Defence of Serbia and Belgrade Fund for Political Excellence.

The lecture was attended by State Secretaries for Defence Dr Tanja Miscevic and Zoran Jevtic, director of the Belgrade Fund for Political Excellence Sonja Licht, Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey in Serbia Ali Riza Colak, the Ministry of Defense and the Serbian Army, military diplomatic corps, academic institutions, NGOs and other.

In his presentation, Ambassador Jeylana spoke of partnership between Serbia and Turkey in all fields, then the historical, cultural and geo-strategic position of his country, and the importance of neighborly relations and establishing a balance between security and liberty. He stressed that in terms of economic power economic at the 16th place in the world, with the ambition to be among the top ten.

Ambassador Jeylana stressed the necessity of global security, in which regional cooperation mechanisms are also important, particularly noting the importance of preserving stability and develop trust in the Western Balkans. The focus of the foreign policy of Turkey and the stability of the Middle East, which is in its immediate environment, and countering global threats to peace such as terrorism and nuclear power.

Turkey conducts an active foreign policy, and its feature of multidimensionality, as Ambassador Jeylana said, "is not a substitute for our EU policy, which remains the main priority of foreign policy of Turkey." This policy aims at contributing to world peace and promoting international and regional cooperation, with respect to the positive difference, he said.

After the lecture Ambassador of Turkey Jeylana responded to numerous questions from the audience.
