Military cooperation with Italy



Fifth bilateral consultations between the Ministries of Defense of Serbia and the Republic of Italy, chaired by Secretary of State Dr. Tanja Miscevic and head of the Third Directorate General Salvatore Farina, were held in Rome on 13 February.

Both sides agreed that cooperation in defense in the last three years has improved in both content and the number of activities. The recent visit of the Minister Sutanovac to Italy represents an additional incentive for intensifying cooperation particularly in joint participation of both Serbian and Italian forces in the UN and EU peacekeeping missions. Italy is the biggest supporter of Serbia's accession to the European Union especially since Serbia is expected to get candidacy status in March,

During the visit, a Bilateral Military Cooperation Plan for 2012 was signed, which envisions continuation of cooperation in the main areas - education and training of military personnel, special forces, demining teams and the field of military medicine.

Secretary of State during met with the Deputy Chief of Italian Army, Vice Admiral Christian Betini during her visit to Italy. He reiterated that Italy fully supported to Serbia in the process of reform and modernization of society, especially in the defense system.
