Council of Defense University constituted

A constituent meeting of the Defense University Council was held today which verified the mandates of elected members and the chairman and deputy chairman. The formation of this body has completed the process of constitution of the body's functions needed for a higher education institution.

The Chancellor of the University of Defence Major General Professor. Dr Miodrag Jevtic in his opening remarks said that although this university may be the youngest in Serbia, it "began ambitiously with the full support of the defense system and the academic community of our country."

-The organization of the University means that we are an integral part of the Conference of regular universities of Serbia, therefore we are obliged to behave accordingly. But what sets us apart if that we are functioning under the supervision of the Ministry of Defence to which we are subordinate- said the chancellor. He said that the youngest university in the country already had twenty accredited study programs at all levels.

-Electing tenure professors, and for positions in scientific research and career development are the major integrative functions that we identified, said Jevtic, particularly singling out specialist security and defense studies, which have the task of profiling the future leaders of the profession.

As part of today's session, the mandates of the Council of 14 members were verified, while the remaining three appointed by the Government of the Republic of Serbia, have not yet been announced. In accordance with the Statute, the Council can not function without them because it has the necessary majority.

At the meeting the Rules of Procedure of the Council of the University of Defence were unanimously adopted, which is completely in line with the Statute. The working group for creating documents for the establishment of the University took into account the Rules of Procedure and other state universities, while bearing in mind the specifics of the military organization.

By a secret ballot of the members present of the University Council of Defense, Brigadier General, Associate Professor. Bojan Zrnic was elected chairman, and Brigadier General Assist. Dr. Miodrag Gordic was elected as his deputy.

The newly elected chairman Brigadier General Bojan Zrnic thanked the other members of the Council for their trust and said that this is for him, but also for all members of a challenge.

- We have a key role in this rather large and ambitious national project and I hope that this initial positive energy and impetus of the whole academic community of Serbia will last. It is we who should ensure that these institutions preserve and become relevant both within our country and at the regional level, said general Zrnic.
