Protocol on “Hummer” donation signed

The Ministry of Defence signed a protocol on donation of multi-purpose based HMMWV (the popular "Hummer"). The basis for the conclusion of the Protocol on the donatiorepresents the finishing of legislative procedures under the provisions of "Letters of offer and acceptance" signed by the Secretary of State in MoD Dr. Tanja Miscevic and the U.S. representatives on 23rd December 2011. This protocol now formally enables that the Government of the United States within the framework of the assistance to foreign armies (FMF - Foreign Military Financing), can donate 17 "Hummer" SUVs during the 2012th The Serbian Army.

On behalf of the Ministries of Defence of Serbia and the U.S. side, the Protocol was signed by the Acting Chief of the International Military Cooperation, Colonel Predrag Kraljevic and the U.S. defense attaché in Serbia, Col. Paul Brotzen respectively.

Using the approved funds under the program for foreign armies, the United States so far has allocated a total of about 3.7 million USD to the Republic of Serbia.

Given that this is a new military equipment, the Ministry of Defense will soon sign a special contract with the manufacturer of the vehicle "Hummer" under which contract a special production of vehicles for the needs of the SAF will commence. Professional and administrative support throughout the whole process was provided by the US Defense Attaché Office and the Defense Cooperation Office with the U.S. Embassy in Belgrade.

According to estimates, the first vehicle "Hummer" for the Serbian Army will be completed in the spring of this year. The primary idea of the Ministry of Defence and General Staff of Serbia is that the vehicles are used for equipping and training of the Special Brigade units which will be engaged in multinational operations.

The Ministry of Defence began with the administrative procedure and the procurement process of additional vehicles, "Hammer" through another US assistance program, the so called, GPOI (Global Peacekeeping Initiative), whose funds are intended to equip and train units for multinational operations.
