Settling housing issues for defense system members



Pursuant to the provisions of the contract signed with the Building Directorate of Serbia signed in 2010, the Ministry of Defense and the Army of Serbia at the site of the former barracks "Vojvoda Stepa Stepanovic" in Belgrade will get gross 21 % of the land. The Ministry of Defence has already accepted 157 apartments in exchange for the land in the garrisons of Vranje, Nis, Leskovac, Kursumlija, Cacak, Gornji Milanovac, Valjevo and Prijepolje. Most of these apartments have already been occupied, and negotiations on contracting another 34 flats are afoot.

The Section for Housing with the mod Department for Tradition, Standards and Veterans this month were informed of allocating 84 apartments on the site of the former barracks "Vojvoda Stepa Stepanovic", and the first flat owners will move into them in late April 2012. By the end of next year the plan envisions that another 300 flats are allocated. The remaining apartments will be occupied during 2013.

The Ministry of Defence expects to take over between 750 and 800 apartments in order to meet the needs of Belgrade garrison. In exchange for the former barracks "Vojvoda Stepa Stepanovic" in Belgrade, the total number of housing units outside of Belgrade will be between 950 and 1,000.
