ARMY CLEANED OF CRIME



As a result of a joint action of the Military Security Agency of the Ministry of Defence, the Prosecutor's Office for Organized Crime in Belgrade and the High Prosecutor's Office in Prokuplje, 12 people were detained on suspicion on having been committing the act of theft of fuel from the storage facilities of "Umac" near Prokuplje for months.

This is part of an all-encompassing campaign of the Ministry of Defense which has bene working on eradicating criminal activity in the Serbian armed forces and the Ministry of Defence, which causes great damage to Serbia's budget.

These arrests are the result of the Military Security Agency’s investigation, after on 11 February this year, it was discovered that there was no more fuel. The analysis of soil and water around the warehouse showed they had not been polluted. In order to determine the circumstances under which something like this happened, and in order to shed the light on these circumstances, not only was the Military Security Agency but the military police and judicial authorities got involved as well.

As part of measures approved by the Special Department for Organized Crime of the High Court in Belgrade, with the application of modern operational and technical resources and methodologies, the Military Security Agency has documented all its investigation of the abuse of office and discovered that the fuel had been stolen from the warehouse.

This joint action has resulted in the apprehension of ten members of the Serbian Army from the warehouse "Umac" and two civilians from Prokuplje, and they are as follows: Zoran Djondovic, sergeant, and Dalibor Maric, a senior sergeant, suspected of abusing their official position of the operator, and have thus alienated large quantity of fuel from the storage. These two members of the army along with the instigators of the crime, civilian Milan Radosevic and his son, Miljan from Prokuplje and the help of members of the Guard Arsic Srdjan and Goran Cenic, Dejan Vucetic, Dragan Stojanovic, Nebojsa Veljovic, Slavisa Marinkovic, Dejan Milenkovic and Ljubisa Stanisavljevic, organized the theft of fuel from storage which has been going on for months.

After the arrests, the suspects were arrested and after 48-hour police remand will be handed over to the investigating judge of the High Court in Prokuplje.
