Opening of the exhibition "Portrait-permanent inspiration"



In the Gallery of the Central Military Club an exhibition "Portrait - a permanent inspiration to artists was opened today" The official presentation of the exhibition from the collection of the National Museum in Nis was attended by the minister of culture, media and information society, Predrag Markovic, art historian Nikola Kusovac, director of the National Museum of Nis Slavisa Popovic, director of the Media Center's "Odbrana," Lt. Col. Slavoljub Markovic.

Addressing the present, LtCol Markovic said that this is the first exhibition of the National Museum in Nis, and the second dedicated to our great poet Branko Miljkovic, on the 50th anniversary of his death, showing that the Media Center "Odbrana" continues implementation of the concept of collaboration with museums, galleries, bequests and other cultural institutions.

- In the past year, since we started the implementation of this concept, the gallery in the Central Military Club has seen than 60,000 visitors - said Lt. Col. Markovic.

- Portrait is a mirror of a society and shows its changes from the nineteenth to the twentieth century. This is a Biedermeier style of the civil art in Serbia and all portraits are exhibited in a good condition. Portrait is a challenging kind of painting because it is the hardest to do- only the best are allowed to come to grips with such an artistic challenge which means to present something which the soul of painting. In this exhibition, there are dozens of them with soul - said Nikola Kusovac.

Belgrade audience will be able to see the exhibition until 28 January 2012 which features 41 portraits of 29 important painters - Uros Predic, Paja Jovanovic, Milan Milovanovic, Milan Konjovic your Pomorisac, Nikola Aleksic, Jovan Popovic to name a few ... The portraits are of Serbian rulers - Prince Milos and Mihailo Obrenovic, Princess Zorka and Prince Pavle Karadjordjevic.

- Renovation of the central Military Club was only just one of many conditions to create an awareness that is not enough to equip the building, but it must also be alive and always full of high quality exhibitions. We need to find a way to exhibit such works of art in such galleries. We now have the opportunity to look at the pictures of great artists - from God to Predic Ilic. This year marks 50 years since Ivo Andric won the Nobel Prize, and he said that the human face and voice of the greatest wealth and challenges for the creation - said Minister Markovic speaking about the exhibited portraits.


The history of art section of the Museum of Nis presents with this exhibition the portraits that emerged in the second half of the nineteenth and early twentieth century. A special treasure of the exhibition is a portrait of King Milan, Munich's famous work of pupils, Djordje Krstic. The portrait of Peter Ubavkic, the first educated Serbian sculptor stands out, as well as the self-portrait of Borivoje Stevanovic, the first academic painter from Nis, as well as works by Uros Predic - portraits of the National Bank of Serbia - George and Filip Weifert Hristic. Besides painting, there are 15 sculptures and art history from the treasuries of Nis Museum exhibited.

- This is a great moment for all of us from the National Museum in Nis because we can introduce an exceptional setting Belgrade pictures from our collection. Our museum has more than 40,000 cases have nothing to prove, especially due to the fact that we will in 2013. mark the great jubilee - 1700 years since the signing of the Edict of Milan - said Slavisa Popovic.


Meanwhile, in a small gallery of the Army, also in cooperation of the National Museum of Media Center Nis and "Odbrana", the audience was presented setting "Branko Miljkovic - poetry as fate," which presents exhibits from the collection-the legacy of the poet. On the 50th anniversary of the tragic death of the great Serbian poetry exposed to his original recordings, manuscripts and French translations of Russian poets, notes, correspondence, photographs and personal belongings.

Exhibitions - "Portrait - a permanent inspiration to artists" and "Branko Miljkovic - poetry as a fate" will be open until 28 January 2012. in the house of the Serbian Army. Every Thursday and 18 hours following programs will be organized - evening dedicated to Branko Miljkovic, the projection of the oldest film on the painter Paja Jovanovic, lectures ... Admission to these events, as well as the exhibition is free.
