Minister Sutanovac visits Algeria
"Algeria is the most important partner of the Serbian Ministry of Defence in the military industry, and both countries have interest in investing in the future joint development of new weapons and military equipment," the minister told Tanjug Sutanovac, located in a two-day visit that country.
Sutanovac said that Algeria and Serbia had started cooperation in military education and health, especially in the field of defense industry four years ago.
During a meeting with the Algerian President Abdelaziz Buteflik and Defense Abdelmalek Guenaizia another topic of discussion were possibilities for expanding cooperation in the field of military health care, where Serbia has extensive experience and excellent staff, said Serbian Minister of Defense.
In a statement to Tanjug news agency , Serbian defense minister also mentioned great interest of Algeria in modernizing the production of certain parts of arms and military equipment necessary Algerian army.
"We want to take part in the in building an arms factory, because we think we have the know how and the capacities for the transfer of technology that that country needs," said the minister.
The agreements that "Jugoimport SDPR", Serbian defense company, has signed with the Ministry of Defence of Algeria, as well as opportunities and announced agreements were talked about by the representatives of the two countries all speak in favour of the said project and huge interest of the Algerian army.
Mentioning that Algeria is certainly the most important partner of Serbian defense industry and military economy, Sutanovac said that relations between the two countries were being built on strategic level, which indicates that Serbia wishes to establish itself as an important ally and associate of Algeria in the field of military industry in near future.
Recalling that the Algerian army is undergoing major reform, Sutanovac said that there is great interest in sending Algerian officers to continue their education at the Military Academy in Serbia.
Furthermore, as he added, the Ministry of Defence of Serbia wants to use its experience and training of staff to contribute to the reform of the Algerian armed forces, the minister added.
Sutanovac said that an expert delegation of the Algerian Ministry of Defence would soon pay a return visit to Serbia.
