Closing of the exhibition of Pavle Beljanski memorial



The wonderful exhibition of paintings from the Memorial Collection of Pavle Beljanski in the Central Military Club in Belgrade has officially been closed. During the month and a half, it was visited by around 11,000 visitors, "which is a remarkable figure for a country where people rarely visit the exhibition," said Dr. Jasna Jovanov , director of the Memorial collection of Pavle Beljanski. The closing ceremony of the exhibition was attended by Minister of Culture, media and information society, Predrag Markovic.

At the closing of the exhibition, the director of the Media Center "ODBRANA," Lt. Col. Slavoljub Markovic underlined the center’s excellent cooperation with the Memorial collection of Pavle Beljanski, resulting in the exhibition in Novi Sad where works from the Art Collection of the Army of Serbia were presented.

At the ceremony special acknowledgments were awarded to institutions that helped the realization of the exhibition for the first time outside its main house, was awarded the Memorial collection of Pavle Beljanski award for the best graduate work from the national art history, defended at the Department of Art History of Philosophy, University of Belgrade, where Danka Obradovic was the winner of the prize.

- When nearly 6 decades ago Pavle Beljanski, in May 1965, established this award what he had in mind was to encourage young art historians to focus on research, and the 44th award in a row proves that his idea has followers - said Dr. John Clear.

Danka Obradovic with her comprehensive analytical and methodological approach, preceded by extensive research, made a significant contribution to the revaluation of the Turkish-Balkan style as an important element of the architectural heritage of Serbian, read the decision of an Assessment Committee Dr. Sasa Brajovic, president of the Executive Board of the Memorial collection of Pavle Beljanski, and their opinion on the award-winning work is presented and mentor Dr. Alexander Kadijevic.

Collection of Novi Sad Memorial collection of Pavle Beljanski was first presented to the audience in the capital in 1952 and 1957 in the Museum of the City of Belgrade. Beljanski originally planned to bequeath his works to this institution, but still decided that 185 paintings, sculptures, drawings and tapestries of 37 artists in former Yugoslavia to be given to Novi Sad.

The exhibition of paintings and sculptures in the Central Military Club in Belgrade includes such illustrious artists as Nadezda Petrovic, Milan Milovanovic, Peter Lubarda, Sava Sumanovic, Milan Konjovic, Nedeljko Gvozdenovic, Marko Celebonovic, Jovan Bijelic. In this way, the Memorial collection of Pavle Beljanski from Novi Sad, celebrates 50 years anniversary.
