Memorandum on Understanding on stand-by arrangement signed between Serbia and the UN

Minister of Defense Dragan Sutanovac and Undersecretary for UN Peace Operations and the Head of the UN peace operations section Herve Ladsous signed a Memorandum on Understanding on Contribution to the UN stand-by arrangement in line with complying with the obligations defined by the UN Charter regarding international cooperation and the engagement of SAF in UN multinational operations beyond Serbia’s borders.

During the meeting minister of defense stressed the strong contribution of the Republic of Serbia to maintaining peace as well as the intention for the MoD and SAF members to be more intensely engaged under UN auspices in the coming period.
The system of stand-by arrangement represents a data base as well as defining the capacities which will be placed at the UN’s disposal. The said capacities will be used under in a peace operation under UN mandate following an invitation by the UN and the compliance of the country which has joined the UN stand-by arrangement.

Adopting the Memorandum on Understanding on the deployment of the capacities that will be used are strictly defined contributes to better planning and realization of training, timely provision of funds and procuring the necessary equipment.

By including the Republic of Serbia into a system of stand-by arrangement the procedure and time needed to deploy capacities in multinational operations will be greatly shortened, which is crucial for getting the approval of the UN for participation of our forces in peace operations.
