The day of the military vet service marked



The Day Veterinary Services - 1 November and 160 years of its existence, was officially celebrated today in the "Topcider" in Belgrade.

The ceremony was attended by Chief of the Military Health MoD, Brigadier General Veljko Todorovic, Head of Veterinary Medicine in the Serbian Army, Lt. Gen. Radivoje Andjelkovic, representatives of the Veterinary Directorate, Serbian Veterinary Society, Veterinary Chamber of Serbia, and many distinguished guests.

"Today we have the opportunity to respectfully remember far-sighted and wise rulers of Serbia, who 160 years ago at a time when Serbia had existential problems, had the vision to form this department and all those workers who have been the bearers of the service ever since. We are obliged to continue this path, and you realize that in modern conditions. Military veterinary service is a functional part of an integrated system of veterinary medicine in the Republic of Serbia, and the prospects of its development is clear, "said Brigadier General Todorovic, congratulating members military veterinary holiday service.

Recalling the history and development of military veterinary medicine in Serbia, Head of Veterinary Medicine in the Serbian Army, Lt. Gen. Radivoje Andjelkovic reminded that the service since its establishment in the 1851st she was the cornerstone and driving force of the entire veterinary activities in Serbia.

"Today the military vet service provides safe support of military logistics. The highest professional body of veterinary services is the Department of Veterinary Medicine which is a member of the Military Health Ministry of Defence. Military veterinary authorities are present in all organizational units of the Ministry of Defense and the Army of Serbia, and as a unit that deals with veterinary activities center stands out veterinary services, chat for training guide dogs, and breeding and training of dogs, the Army Training Command. Given the current technical and scientific capacities of our services, what is set as the goal is technical and technological modernization and development of capacities for active participation in all three missions of the Army of Serbia, "said Lt. Col. Andjelkovic.

The date of this service is marked on 1st November, when in 1851 by a decree of Prince Alexander Karadjordjevic Jovan Teodorovic was appointed the first veterinary military physician and in the same year the first permanent veterinary hospitals in Topcider garrison were established. Until the 20th century military veterinary service has had a steady and upward growth. In 2005 the veterinary and medical departments form the Military Health Care Department within the Material Resources Sector of the Ministry of Defence and while the Veterinary Service training center became part of the MMA.
