University of Defense and Belgrade University sign a cooperation agreement

Rectors of the University of Belgrade and University of Defence, Professor Dr. Branko Kovacevic and professor Major General Miodrag Jevtic respectively signed today in Belgrade University an Agreement on Cooperation between the two institutions.

- We have cooperated since the Second World War, so our biggest partners are the institutions of the Serbian Armed Forces. We worked together on large projects, especially in the defense industry, which was the most vital part of the economy of the former Yugoslavia. I believe this is a new beginning and that our cooperation will be just as successful in the future - said prof. Kovacevic.

Rector of the University of Defence, General Jevtic said he looked forward to seeing that this cooperation was not only formal within official institutions, just in the form of institutional communication hoping that they will be reliable partners in the decades to come.

- University of Defence is a young and relatively small, and certainly there is much to learn from Belgrade University. We do not want to pose an unfair competition to anyone, but we are willing to cooperate and to take advantage of the vast capacity the Serbian Army has, despite numerous problems that have befallen our country - said Jevtic.

He said he was pleased to see that the University of Defense had managed to find a stable position in a short period of time as evidenced by the recent adoption of the defense University’s Statute by the Serbian Government.

In addition to the signing of the cooperation agreement, the Dean of the Defense University and his staff were acquainted with the information system of Belgrade University. Professor Kovacevic said that the University of Belgrade was willing to help colleagues from the University of Defence in other areas as well.

- The best equipment in Serbia can still be found in the Army. I hope we can share the capacity not only in the form of equipment, but also in education and scientific research, in form of exchanging professors and even students. In the future we aspire to be partners with the ministries of the Government of Serbia, but also abroad. It is up to us to make a good educational system, because Serbia has no chance without young educated people, not in the region, let alone in the wider environment – as prof. Kovacevic remarked.
