Championship in half-marathon opened in Apatin



Official opening ceremony at the Cultural Center in Apatin mared the start of the Danube half-marathon and the second CISM Military Regional Championship in half-marathon.

With the sounding of the national anthem and the CISM anthem, the national flag of Serbia and CISM Serbian were hoisted by Captain Igor Jakimovski, a FYR Macedonia representative and corporal Ksenija Bubnjeviv, Major Alexander Nesevski and lt. Nevena Jovanovic, of the Serbian team.

Competitors and attendees were addressed by the Mayor of Apatin Mr. Milan Škrbi?, on behalf of the Secretariat of Culture and Sports and Minister of Vojvodina Janos Cikosi and our famous athlete Dane Korica, the promoter of the championships acting on behalf of the Sports Federation of Serbia.

The championship was opened by the first training center commander and president of the IO championship, Colonel Lazar Ostojic, stressing that the second Military Championship in half-marathon is only part of the military events of the CISM framework of the distinct and unique way of contributing to the overall harmonization of international military cooperation and the strengthening of peace in the region.

"Sport encourages the development of physical training in the Army and the military athletes in the armed forces, as the ones setting a standard of health and psycho-physical abilities make them the most valuable part," said Lt. Col. Ostojic.

After the opening ceremony, street races of Apatin primary schools were held, while the half marathon started on Sunday, at 11:00hours in the spa Junakovic where, the finishing line being at the 21st kilometer.
