University of Defence’s Statute adopted

At today’s regular session, the Interim Council of the University of Defence unanimously adopted the Statute of the University of Defence, the basic general act of that University.

That document regulates the organisation as well as the legal position and status of the University organisational units, studies and study programmes, enrolment and the regulations of studies, teaching and associate ranks and their appointments, as well as the issues relevant for the functioning of that institution. During the drafting of the Statute, the organisations and the statutes of other institutions of higher education in our country and abroad as well as the specificities of the defence system of the Republic of Serbia have been observed.

The meeting was chaired by the Rector of the University in Kragujevac Prof. Dr. Slobodan Arsenijevic, and attended by the Rector of the University of Defence Major General, Prof. Dr. Miodrag Jevtic with the Collegium, Head of the Military Academy, Brigadier General, Mladen Vuruna, as well as the deans of the faculties at Serbian Universities.

Speaking about the importance of the Statute’s adoption, General Jevtic emphasised that it was a verification document, which is a good starting point for further work.

- The Statute will present the basis for reaching other normative acts, whereas its importance is made bigger by the fact that we started from the blank paper. At the same time, it protects and obliges both the University employees and students – General Jevtic stressed, adding that the Universities all over Serbia will receive a reliable partner when it comes to academic community.

At the session on February 24 the Government of the Republic of Serbia reached the Decision on establishing the University of Defence in Belgrade.

By the Republic of Serbia President’s Decree, General Major Prof. Dr. Miograd Jevtic was appointed first Rector. The University of Defence is comprised of the Military Medical Academy’s Faculty of Medicine with a study programme in the area of medicine, as well as, the Military Academy with its study programmes in the area of humanities and technical and technological societies.
