Announcement: Exhibition “Pavle Beljanski Collection: again in Belgrade”

The press conference on the forthcoming exhibition “Pavle Beljanski Collection: again in Belgrade”, comprised of 68 works of art by 32 authors from the collection, was held today in the Serbian Military Club.

As of Wednesday, October 12, 1 pm, Belgrade public who visits the Big Gallery of the Military Club will have a possibility to see the paintings and sculptures by some of the most important representatives of Serbian Modernism – Nadezda Petrovic, Milan Milovanovic, Petar Lubarda, Sava Sumanovic, Milan Konjevic, Nedeljko Gvozdenovic, Marko Celebonovic, Jovan Bjelic. The exhibition’s organisers are the Media Center “Odbrana” and Pavle Beljanski Memorial Collection from Novi Sad, which in this way marks its fiftieth anniversary.

Speakers at the press conference were Dr Jasna Jovanov, the Head of Pavle Beljanski Memorial Collection, Lieutenant-Colonel Slavoljub Markovic, Media Center “Odbrana”’s Director, and Ana Krstic, Manager at the Telenor Foundation, which enabled special 30-minute audio-tours that the public could listen to via mobile phones.

Pavle Beljanski Memorial-Collection from Novi Sad was presented to the Belgrade audience between 1952 and 1957 in the Belgrade City Museum. Beljanski, Serbian donor, diplomat, collector and patron, planned to donate the collection to that institution, but he nevertheless decided to place 185 paintings, sculptures, drawings and tapestries by 37 authors from the former-Yugoslav territory in Novi Sad.

- Our intention was to present the exhibition in the most appropriate manner. It will be adjusted to the needs of a modern visitor – we have made a high-quality catalogue, a special team of domestic architects participated in the setting up and designing the exhibition, whereas a rich accompanying programme will also be organised – film screenings, expert interpretation, children workshops – Dr Jovanov said, adding that Pavle Beljanski Memorial Collection signed a cooperation agreement with the Media Center “Odbrana”, which will present works from its art fund to the Novi Sad audience between October 19 and November 20.

A novelty in the exhibition premises in Serbia is presented through a special segment devoted to the blind and visually impaired persons, who will, thankful to the tactile display from the Beljanski exhibition, be enabled to make a contact with the artistic work. Tactile diagrams are prepared for two paintings Jefta Peric’s “Still Life” and Jovan Bijelic’s “A Girl with a Book”. Additional two diagrams are in correlation with the copy of a sculptor Sreten Stojanovic’s sculpture “Natasa Boskovic”.

Lieutenant-Colonel Markovic pointed out that the exhibition “Pavle Beljanski Collection: again in Belgrade” presents the continuation of cooperation between the Media Center “Odbrana” and the cultural institutions in Serbia.

- This year, following the exhibition of the Military Museum and Sava Sumanovic’s paintings, the Serbian Military Club hosted “Nadezda Petrovic” Gallery from Cacak, Foundation “Momo Kapor” and the National Museum from Zrenjanin. In the next month and a half, the audience may visit the extraordinary collection from Pavle Beljanski Memorial Collection – Lieutenant-Colonel Markovic emphasised.

The exhibition is sponsored by the Serbian Ministry of Culture, Media and Information Society, Government of the Province of Vojvodina and the Provincial Secretariat for Culture and Public Information. The audience could see the exhibition between October 12 and November 26 in the Military Club’s Big Gallery in Belgrade. The entrance is free.
