Visit to Corfu and Vido



Representatives of the Ministry of Defense and the Army of Serbia participated in the ceremony marking the anniversary of the breakthrough of the Tessalonika front, as part of the study trip of the Military Academy cadets Army of Serbia and the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy.

Representatives of the MoD and SAF laid laurel wreaths on the island of Vido (in a mausoleum at the Naval Cross) and the Blue Tomb. The delegation consisted of Colonel Dragan Radenkovic, Department of Tradition, Standard and Veterans, Col. Predrag Stefanovic, military attache of the Republic of Serbia in the Republic of Greece and Srdjan Miljkovic, Major from the Military Academy, MO.

On behalf of the Republic of Serbia State Secretary Ministry of Labour and Social Policy Negovan Stojkovic, Serbian Ambassador to the Republic of Greece, Dragan Zupanjevac and Honorary Consul of the Republic of Serbia on the island of Corfu Spiros Mastoros laid wreaths as well.

Besides the delegations of Serbia and the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Serbia, wreaths, the delegations of Ionian island, the Corfu Coast Guard, Corfu airport representatives and the Association of cherishing tradition until 1918 also laid wreaths.

The next day, the delegation continued to pay its respects by laying of wreaths at the memorial in Gouvia, the landing place of the Serbian army, in the cemetery of Drina Division , and on the monument erected in memory to Yanis Yanoulis in the village of Agios Mateos. Along with the delegations of the representatives of Corfu island and the Association of for cherishing tradition until 1918.


On the way back from Agios Mateos, Military Academy cadets visited the villa Ahileon that was a Serbian army hospital for Serbian officers.

Cadets are to continue their study tour in the Republic of Greece to mark the anniversary of the breakthrough of the Thessalonika where they will lay wreaths in Thessaloniki and Polikastro.
