MoD admitted into the European Commission on Road safety in the Armed Forces



The General Assembly of the European Commission on Road safety in the Armed Forces, held on 16th September in Prague, according to the decision of delegates, admitted the Ministry of Defense and Serbian Armed Forces to full membership of the commission.

X congress of the commission was held between 13th to 16th September in Prague, Czech Republic. Topic of this year's Congress was "Risk assessment and the use of simulators in driver training." In addition to 28 representatives from 15 member countries and Commission representatives of Israel as observer, two-member delegation of General Logistics Department Sector for Material Resources, headed by Colonel Zeljko Rankovic, PhD participated in the Congress.

In addition to presentations of papers and discussions during the Congress, visit of the Czech Armed Forces Institute of Education and Training in the transport, deployed in Viškovo was organized. On that occasion the frontal impact and rollover simulators were presented, office for vehicle maintenance training, driver training simulators for the non-combat and combat vehicles in the road and off-road conditions and driver training site. General


Assembly was held on the last day of Congress, with the next subject: annual report of the Commission, the budget for the period 2011-2012 and the election of the chairman and two members of the executive committee of the commission. Former Chairman, Norwegian Armed Forces Colonel Oddvar Haagensen, extended the mandate for another two years, Czech Armed Forces Major Jan Šev?ík and Swedish Armed Forces representative Johan Pihlstrom was elected for the members of the Executive Committee instead of former members Belgian Armed Forces Lieutenant Colonel Laurent Johnny and Captain Flemming Pedersen.

Chairman Norwegian Armed Forces Colonel Oddvar Haagensen, with the policy secretary Lief Agnar Ellevset, attended the 5th Expert conference "Safety of military traffic participants", realized in May at the Military Academy, where he outlined the mission and tasks of this commission. On that occasion, he expressed satisfaction that our Ministry of Defense and Serbian Armed Forces will join in the commission and contribute in activities to increasing traffic safety conducted by Commission.
At the end of the Congress, participants were addressed by Colonel Zeljko Rankovic, PhD, with words of gratitude for the admission to membership and hope that the exchange of experiences and examples of "best practices" contribute to improving the safety of military traffic participants, both in road, as well as in off-road conditions and military operations.

The importance of admission the Ministry of Defense and the Serbian Armed Forces into the European Commission for Road safety in the Armed Forces is reflected in the participation of our representatives in the activities being carried out at European level to improve traffic safety and implementing strategies to reduce number of killed in traffic accidents in the armed forces.
