Girls state record holders in parachuting

Seven female sport parachutists, together with a female member of 63rd Parachute Battalion of the Special Brigade, warrant officer Radmila Djuric broke today the state record in eight-member skydiving formation jump from 4,000 meters above the Batajnica airport.

Quest for the record began more than a month ago by the initiative of young female parachutists from aero clubs all over Serbia gathered under the flag of the Serbian Airwomen Association, with the organizational, technical and logistical assistance from the Ministry of Defence and Air Force and Air Defence.

Jelica Krajeceska, Jelena Mihajlovic, Tijana Radic, Ana Vucic, Marijana Momcilovic, Milena Mirkovic, Svetlana Simic and Radmila Djuric set a new state record in the second attempt by jumping from the latest aircraft of our air forces - helicopters Mi-17, with ideal weather conditions and supported by experienced instructors and friends.

After leaving the helicopters they managed to firmly grab each other in skydiving and maintain the formation more than three seconds what was enough for the parachute judge to confirm that officially after reviewing the video.

Young female parachutists did not hide their delight after opening colourful canopies of their parachutes. Long preparations and discipline at following instructions of older colleagues were awarded with the ideal weather conditions as well as the technical ones. Mi-17 helicopter raised them to a height for jump of 4,000 meters in record seven minutes. This was experience they did not have so far:

-This was really a phenomenal feeling, we are all happy, we finally managed to achieve the goal we set for ourselves few months ago, the effort paid off today in the best possible way. I am speechless as far as the helicopters are concerned, we were up so soon, we just had to jump and follow the procedure we practiced so much, Maja Momcilovic, the youngest 20-year-old female parachutists, said.

Members of the 204th air brigade led by the Commander Colonel Predrag Bandic did they best for the whole event to pass with flawless organization. Congratulating the girls, he said that they managed with their persistence and perseverance to move another boundary and despite the complex challenge, to safely and successfully be entered into books of national air force pioneers.

- Batajnica is the home for sky lovers and here the girls were among friends, flying and technical personnel who had a special motivation to fulfil this special mission, Colonel Bandic said.

On this occasion, the future second lieutenants, air cadets Anja Krneta, Sandra Radovanovic and Ana Tadic filled the applications to join the Serbian Airwomen Association.
