Statement of General Miloje Miletic to Tanjug



Serbian aircraft to fire AA missiles tomorrow

Serbian Armed Forces Chief of Staff, General Miloje Miletic, said that the members of the Serbian fighter air force, together with Bulgarian colleagues, at the Bulgarian training ground "Shabla", tomorrow, will aim at targets with AA missiles.

"Firings will be performed by our fighter aircraft with " MiG 29, using "air-to-air" missiles, and it is an activity that will be performed tomorrow at the training ground Shabla, Miletic said in a telephone statement to Tanjug from Asenovgrad, Bulgaria.

He said that last year, on the same training ground, joint live firing exercise of the members of the two armies was conducted for the first time when the members of the Serbian Armed Forces used missile systems "KUB" and "NEVA".

According to him, the members of the Serbian Armed Forces, this year ,will also train engaging targets from the same missile systems.

Miletic, who met yesterday in Sofia with the Chief of General Staff of the Bulgarian armed forces, General Simeon Simeonov and Minister of Defence, Anyu Angelov, said that in these talks it was stated that the cooperation between the two armies is very good.

"We concluded that the cooperation is very good and that it has been particularly intensified since 2009 and what makes these relations characteristic are the joint activities to build operational capabilities of both militaries reaching certain levels of interoperability," he said.

The Serbian Armed Forces Chief of Staff also said that "in recent years we have regularly and intensively performed joint training and joint exercises."

"For any army that wants to rationally and effectively respond to modern challenges, risks and threats to security it is important to share experiences with the armed forces of other states and to verify them and implement them in joint exercises", he said.

Miletic visited during the day the Fourth Artillery Regiment in Asenovgrad and tomorrow he will be present at the joint live air firing exercise, in the training ground Shabla.

At the training ground, the members of the Air Force and Air Defence of the Serbian Armed Forces and the Bulgarian Army are preparing for joint live air firing exercise.
