Photo exhibition on the occasion of the Military Museum Day

On the occasion of the Military Museum Day – 22 August, at the Gallery of the institution today, the exhibition entitled "Anastas Jovanovic, the first Serbian photographer and lithographer" has been opened. The public was first shown the oldest part of the photo collection of the Military Museum, and also the lithographs from the art collection.

Opening the exhibition of the author, the art historian Natasa Tomic, Commandant of the Military Academy, General Mladen Vuruna emphasized that the exhibition was a unique opportunity for visitors to see a part of the oldest and most valuable part of the lithographic photo collection and lithographs of Anastas Jovanovic, donated to the Military Museum by his daughter, Katarina Jovanovic, in 1936.

"The most important part of the present that Katarina Jovanovic donated to the museum is found in the collection. Katarina selected the recordings according to the themes that the Military Museum deals with. Photos that were included in the Museum fund were created in the mid-19th century and these are remarkable artistic photographs and aesthetic values. Photos are valuable also because of their documentary value, but they would also satisfy the research appetites of artists, historians, ethnologists or culturologists," General Vuruna said.

According to the Commandant of the Military Academy, feature of the collection lies in the fact that its exhibits reflect the current socio-political and cultural milieu of Serbia in the 19th century.
"At one place we will be able to see the history of individuals who marked the Serbian history, but also the images of significant historical settlements, events and objects which testify about the development of Serbian cities, society, and above all the Serbian army," Vuruna said.

The display of the exhibition is composed of the lithographs of religious and historical character. These are mainly portraits, in part medieval, and in part of persons from the public and cultural life of modern Serbia, while the photographs depict panoramic landscapes of Serbia and Serbian cities like Belgrade and Kragujevac.

Welcoming the guests, the Head of the Military Museum, Colonel Miroslav Knezevic, reminded of the successes achieved by the collective of the Museum in the previous year.

We completed the year with traditional performance at the Belgrade New Year's Fair, with the exhibition "Automatic weapons of World War II" – Colonel Knezevic said.
