Fifth military world games in Brazil end



Representatives of the Ministry of Defense and the Army of Serbia participated in the fifth world Military Games held in Rio de Janeiro. At the "Games of Peace" which was the of this year's competition, they have demonstrated professionalism and acknowledged the spirit of competition.

The members of the armed forces from 111 countries and more than 7,000 competitors too part in the "Games of Peace" while competitions were organized in 20 sports disciplines in the men's and women's competition.

Given that most of our athletes competed with professional athletes, who participate in the Olympic Games and world championships, the achieved results were outstanding. The most successful member of SAF of the fifth world military games was reserve soldier Uros Nenkovic winning fifth place in the competition in judo, in the category up to 81 pounds.

In the competition in marathon as part of the "Rio de Janeiro 2011 International Marathon" Sergeant Goran Cegar finished the race at 35th place among 55 competitors, professional soldier Ksenija Bubnjevic came in 11th position of 17 competitors at the start list. Among 23 competitors, cadets Nevena Jovanovic won the 17th place in the 5,000-meter race, which is her best personal record.

Representatives of the Ministry of Defense and the Army of Serbia in qualified in shooting performances – in rapid fire pistol. Captain Sasa Petrovic won the competition as 37th out of 130 competitors , his score coming close to his personal record four rounds worse than the national record. Tanja Tacic finished 35th on the list of 50 athletes in the discipline of gun shooting, having achieved the best personal result.

Sergeant Igor Vukovic took the 38th place in a short distance race during the orienteering competition, while at long distances he finished at 55th place. Captain Blazo Maksimovic won the 47th placement on a short distance race and took 50th position in the long distance.

Parachute team of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Army team took the 27th place among 37 teams of paratroopers.

On the last day of military games in Brazil, the members of the armed forces of the Republic of Korea carried out a performance in the martial art taekwondo, and so the host announced the next, sixth world military games .
