General Miletic meets with KFOR Commander

A meeting of the Joint Commission for the Implementation of the Military Technical Agreement was held at Kopaonik today, which was attended by Serbian armed forces Chief of General Staff Miloje Miletic and KFOR commander, Major General Erhard Biler.

The two generals exchanged views and opinions regarding the overall situation in Kosovo and Metohija.

General Biler informed General Miletic about the recently completed restructuring of KFOR, now comprising two multinational battle groups - East and West including five joint regional units, adding that the new structure of KFOR has confirmed its validity.

- KFOR is still ready and determined to carry out its tasks with adequate mobility, flexibility and readiness as its personnel strength and skills do compensate KFOR forces downsizing, said General Biler.

Generals Biler and Miletic both assessed that the cooperation between the Serbian Army and KFOR was very good, at a professional level, based on mutual trust. Examples of this successful cooperation, include simultaneous patrols along the administrative border, exchange of security information regarding situation on both sides of the administrative line, as well as cooperation within the Joint Committee on the implementation of the Technical Agreement.

It was estimated that the overall situation along the administrative border was calm and stable. Some criminal activities such as smuggling, illegal immigration and illegal felling of trees, can be suppressed by further professional cooperation between the security forces.

It was noted that by hosting the recently held Strategic Military Partner Conference in Belgrade, Serbia has showed that it plays an important role in the talks on the future of Southeast Europe, thus providing valuable contribution to peace and stability in the Balkans.

Meetings of the Joint Commission for the implementation of the Military technical Agreement have been held regularly at various levels since 1999 in order to enforce the Military Technical Agreement
