Fourth SAF championship opened

At the MA sports grounds the fourth military sports championship started today in the organization of the SAF air force command. The championship was opened by the SAF CHOD General Miloje Miletic.

“Modern experiences confirm that physical readiness is a necessary precondition to building operational and functional capabilities of any army. Physical training constitutes n important part of the overall training period as well as sports competitions. This fourth SAF championship is an excellent opportunity to demonstrate how important we feel physical training and sports are but also to see how far we have gone in applying modern standards in evaluating these abilities”, as General Miletic said in his address, stating that SAF’s assigned mission are closely linked and intertwined with physical and mental fitness of SAF members.

The opening ceremony was attended also by the Mod and SAF representatives, including the retired colonel of the Dutch military Michelle van Mers, former CIS Secretary General who was today presented with an honorary medal by general Miletic for his outstanding contribution to the defense system of Serbia. The ceremony saw such dignitaries as Aca Kovacevic, promoter of futsal, Vuk Rasovic, promoter of judo, Slobodan Brankovic, promoter of athletics, Ivana Goranovic, promoter of orienteering, Obrad Stevanovic, promoter of marksmanship and also the representative of the Serbian Olympic Committee.

The competitions will last till Friday, and during this time the teams of MoD, SAF GS, the SAF army, the Training Command and the air force will be competing with 400 participants.

The teams will be competing in multi-sports events (men, singles and team), shooting (men and women, singles and teams), orienteering (men and women, singles and teams), judo (men, singles), athletics (men and women, singles and teams), volleyball (men) and futsal (men)
