Military cooperation with Spain



The first bilateral defence consultations between the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Serbia and the Kingdom of Spain, led by Head of the International Military Cooperation Department Milorad Peric and Deputy Director General for Defence Policy Vice Admiral Ignacio Horcada Rubio held in Madrid on 7 June.

Bilateral military cooperation between Serbia and Spain was established in 2009 and has been continuously developed in its content and the number of activities.

Crown of cooperation is joint engagement in the UN peacekeeping mission in Lebanon. During defence consultations the discussion was held also about the increased involvement of the members of the Serbian Armed Forces in the UN mission in Lebanon by the end of this year.

The Bilateral Military Cooperation Plan for 2012 was signed.

Focal areas of cooperation are joint engagement in peacekeeping missions, exchange of high-level visits, training of special forces, education, and the possible new forms of cooperation in the future were also discussed.

Head of the IMC Department had a meeting with Luis Manuel Cuesta Civis, Secretary General for Defence Policy. Cuesta repeted that Spain strongly supports Serbia on its European path and that the position of Spain regarding Kosovo and Metohia will not change.
