Ambassadors visit "South" Base



US Ambassador Mary Warlick, Macedonian Ambassador Ljubisa Georgievski, Bulgarian Ambassador Georgi Dimitrov, Australian Ambassador Helena Gay Studdert, Albanian Ambassador Shpetim Caushi and Ambassador Dimitrios Kypreos, Head of the OSCE Mission to Serbia, have visited the "South" Base today. On this occasion, the state secretaries in the Ministry of Defence, Tanja Miscevic, Zoran Jeftic and Deputy Commander of Land Forces Major General Vidoje Zivkovic informed them about the vision of the Base development in the future.

Team Leader for the coordination and activities related to the development of the "South" Base, Zoran Jeftic, said that the capacity of the Training Centre will be developing, primarily for our own national needs in order to reach the development level of a Regional Development Centre and a Partnership for Peace Centre in the subsequent stages.

"Within the cooperation in the project so far we have had good and constructive cooperation with the Ohio National Guard and US Army Europe (USAREUR) so that by the end of September we will have a concrete project with all the details. In the next phase we will build infrastructure facilities, simulation centres, shooting range in Vrtogos and training ground in Borovac and thus provide a modern centre in which members of the declared SAF units will be trained and receive certificates for participation in peacekeeping operations. It is important to know that the centre will be open to participation of officers and soldiers of foreign armies from the region to achieve the level that we can open a centre for all partner countries", State Secretary Jeftic said .

US Ambassador Mary Warlick thanked, on behalf of all the ambassadors, on a thorough briefing and stressed that the development of the "South" Base is a major priority in relations between the SAF and USAREUR and Ohio National Guard.

In the presentation of the "South" Base, Major General Vidoje Zivkovic stressed that coordination and cooperation in sharing experiences will contribute to the quality of training of units to engage in multinational operations.
