"CARANA" staff exercise commences at the Peacekeeping Operations Centre



The five-day trilateral staff exercise "CARANA" involving ministries of defence of the Republic of Serbia, the United Kingdom, and the Kingdom of Norway commenced today at the Peacekeeping Operations Centre of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff.

It is the exercise of the second mission of the Serbian Armed Forces – participation in peace building and peace keeping in the region and the world. The exercise is realised with the students of 54th Class of General Staff School, with participation of the members from the Ministry of Interior, the Gendarmerie and members of the for Peacekeeping Operations Centre , who will exercise the role of observers.

The purpose of the exercise is to train military and civilian personnel and the personnel of the Ministry of Interior in the field of disarmament, demining, protection of forces and protection of the population. Participants will train in activities of assuming control of the territory.

Concurrently with training of the students, this will be a practical training for the lecturers and teachers of the Military Academy who are currently in leadership of the exercise as observers in order to take over the role of managers of the exercises in due course . That role is now with the participants from the Netherlands, Germany, Norway and the Great Britain.
