Self-Access English Language Learning Centre opened in Nis



In the "Prince Mihailo" barracks in Nis, Self-Access English Language Learning Centre, the twelfth in the Serbian Armed Forces and the second such institution in the area of the Third Army Brigade.

The Centre was opened in the presence of Brigadier General Sladjan Djordjevic, Assistant Minister for Human Resources, by Colonel Želimir Glisovic, Commander of the 3rd Brigade and Colonel Bjorn Torstensson, Defence Attaché of the Kingdom of Sweden to Serbia. Opening ceremony was attended also by other defence attaches of the countries involved in the PELT programme – Norway, Great Britain, the Netherlands and Denmark, as well as the representatives of the British Council in Serbia.

According to Brigadier General Djordjevic, for 1700 formation job positions in the Serbian Armed Forces some level of English is required. About 2,300 members have already had some of the certificates, 1400 has completed the beginners level, 600 reached intermediate level and 300 has reached the advanced level of knowledge of this language.

-Knowledge and skills of English language usage have become essential for the active participation of Serbia in the Partnership for Peace programme and peace support operations through UN and EU missions – General Djordjevic said, noting that the communication skills of the professional personnel of the Serbian Armed Forces in this language is one of the priorities of the Ministry of Defence.
