Minister Sutanovac in Nigeria

Defence Minister Dragan Sutanovac paid a several-day visit to the Federal Republic of Nigeria where he had a series of bilateral meetings. He also attended the ceremony of inauguration of the President of Nigeria Jonathan Goodluck and reception on the occasion of electing the new president.

During his stay in Nigeria, Minister Sutanovac talked also with Ghanaian President John Mills on the possibilities of education for the representatives of both their Armed Forces and the civil society. "There is interest in training at our Military Academy, and I believe that we will sign an agreement with Ghana, which will provide stronger links between our two militaries".

Minister Sutanovac met with the Acting Minister of Defence Mr Ezekiel Oyemomi, with the Chief of Staff and representatives of the Defence Industry Corporation of Nigeria (DICON).

"In Nigeria, there is great interest in the Serbian defence industry products. We believe that we will find a way, both for marketing of our products, and for joint investment in the development of certain products that can be used in both the Nigerian Armed Forces and the Serbian Armed Forces, and to be placed on third markets, particularly in Africa", said Sutanovac.

He recalled that in March this year the Agreement on Defence Cooperation has been signed during the visit of the Nigerian Defence Minister to Serbia, and added, "We opened the doors for further cooperation in the field of education of officers and cadets at our military academies, and in the field of military medicine and defence industry."

Minister Sutanovac said that there is great interest of the Nigerian side in joint participation in peacekeeping missions, but also to invest in programmes that would include equipping and modernization of the Nigerian Armed Forces.
