Seminar on "Women, Peace and Security"

At the Strategic Research Institute of the Ministry of Defence today, the seminar on "Serbian National Action Plan and indicators in the area of Women, Peace and Security" has been opened. The two-day meeting was organized in cooperation with the UN Women Central South Eastern Europe Office.

Tanja Miscevic, State Secretary in the Ministry of Defence, who heads the Defence Policy Sector which led the adoption of the Resolution, speaking at the opening, pointed out that its adoption meant moving the boundaries created so far in the Ministry of Defence in order to create new values.

- Resolution 1325 implies tolerance, gender equality and equal opportunities, and it is necessary to animate all the available structures and capacities to its application – emphasized the Secretary Miš?evi? adding that after the adoption came the harder part of the story, because there follows the implementation of the adopted document on equal gender representation. Despite everything, she says, the positive progress in the Ministry of Defence is evidenced by the first generation of girls – military pilots, female military officers and female military doctors.

Secretary Miscevic has also announced the signing of the Memorandum on Cooperation between the Ministry of Defence and the UN Women Central South Eastern Europe Office by strengthening the cooperation in this way, while creating a document of good practice.

Participants in the seminar were also addressed by Jovanka Šaranovi?, PhD, Director of the Strategic Research Institute, Sonja Liht, Director of the Belgrade Fund for Political Excellence, Erika Kvapilova, Regional Director of the UN Women Central South Eastern Europe Programme and William S. Infante, UN Resident Coordinator in Serbia.

Seminar is attended by representatives of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces, representatives of the Ministry of Interior, Customs Administration, Belgrade Fund for Political Excellence, OSCE Mission to Serbia, Belgrade Centre for Security Policy and other relevant organizations.
