The signing of the Agreement on security procedures for exchange and protection of classified information between Serbia and the European Union is a prerequisite for the future engagement of the members of the armed forces of our country in the EU missions.
Defence Minister Dragan Sutanovac stated that Serbia is sincerely pledging for European values, which was demonstrated in the arrest of Ratko Mladic, thus eliminating one ofthe biggest obstacles to its European perspective.
At the press conference Minister Sutanovac expressed satisfaction with the achieved results, and he mentioned as the greatest success completed professionalisation of the Serbian Armed Forces and enhancing the reputation and standard of its members, the formation of the University of Defence, strengthening of international cooperation and participation in UN peacekeeping missions and assistance in the promotion and marketing of domestic defence industry products.
By Decree of the President of the Republic of Serbia Boris Tadic golden and silver medals for outstanding merits and the results shown in performing duties and assignments in the fields of defence and security were awarded to the members of the Ministry Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces.
In his interview to ODBRANA, Dr Zoran Vesic, State Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, said that the former SFRY has realised, since the first United Nations peacekeeping mission in Sinai, from 1956 to 1967, the importance of participation in peacekeeping missions, not only as a contribution to the system of collective security, but also as a significant tool of foreign policy.
