Conference of the Euroatlantic conflict study work group



In the organization of the Department for Military History of the Institute for Strategic Research, MoD and the Department of Military Studies of the School of National defense of Sweden, the 11th annual Euroatlantic Confict Study Work Group (CSWG).

The topic of this three-day conference is “regular and irregular warfare: experiences from past and modern conflicts: with an accent on guerilla and insurgency warfare, terrorism and antiterrorist acts, civil-military cooperation such as in Afghanistan and Iraq.

The opening speech was given by State Secretary Tanja Miscevic, the director of the Institute for Strategic Research Jovana Saranovic, PhD and the Swedish DA Bjorn Torstenson and the Head of the Department of Militray Science of the Swedish School of National defense Colonel Bo Clingernik.

Talking about the importance of the conference, secretary Miscevic stressed that sharing experiences and opinions between experts regarding problems that occurred in wars in the past, all this for the purpose of fining solutions to solve future security challenges.

- While drawing up strategic and doctrinaire documents, MoD took into consideration the experiences of our country in wars during history, as Miscevic emphasized adding that by cooperating with other countries we wish to overcome the consequences of recent wars. Therefore, as she reminded, our country is involved in the partnership for Peace Program and is making use of its full capacities. Furthermore, as she announced, Serbia would be signing documents in intentional security this year, as well as the upcoming Strategic Military Partner Conference to be held in June.

This work group was established in 2000 under the auspices of the Partnership for peace program and represents an active and important factor in establishing, maintaining and promoting regular, multilateral and open sharing of information between state research institutions and schools in military history and the NATO member states strategies and PfP signatories.

There are 50 experts participating at the conference from the USA, Russia, Germany, France, Poland, Romania, the Czech Republic, Austria, Greece, Hungary, Bulgaria, Slovenia, Sweden and Serbia.
