Publications in the field of security presented in the National Assembly



Information Bulletin on the defense system of Serbia and Proceedings of the Institute for Strategic Research "Security and Defense Aspects of the accession of Serbia to EU" were presented to the members of the parliament and professionals in the National Assembly.

The presentation of the book was given by Dr. Tanja Miscevic, State Secretary in the Ministry of Defence, Marko Djurisic, a member of the Parliamentary Committee for Defense and Security, Madis Vainoma, Acting Head of Democratization Department, OSCE Mission in Serbia, Mladen Vuruna Brigadier General, Chief of the Military Academy, and Brigadier General Milan Mojsilovic, Deputy Commander of Joint Operations Command Headquarters of the Army of Serbia.


Tanja Miscevic, State Secretary in the Ministry of Defence indicated this bulletin was made in view of promoting transparency of the Ministry of Defense and the Serbian Armed Forces and while the Collection of Works bespeaks of the contribution of the defense system to the democratization of Serbia and attaining European standards in security and defense.

Secretary of State expressed her hope that during the forthcoming visit to Belgrade, of EU High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy Ms. Ashton an agreement would be signed allowing participation of SAF members in peacekeeping missions under the EU auspices. Miscevic said that Serbia wanted to contribute as much as possible to the stability of the European defense system and to get its armed forces involved into a joint defense policy of the European Union. She said that the MoD and SAF’s goal is to support the process of Europeanization of the state and of representing Serbia as a partner and Europe Union by participating in EU missions.

Speaking about plans for the participation of SAF in the EU-led missions, Secretary of State said that they anticipated dispatching officers of the Riverine onto a Greek military ship that, as part of Operation Atalanta, thus contributing to countering piracy in the waters of Somalia, as well as participation in the mission in Uganda.

Member of the Defence and Security Committee, Marko Djurisic said that this information bulletin about the defense system would greatly help the MPs in performing their work, given the important role of the National Assembly and in particular the role that Committee for Defence and Security has in a democratic and civilian control of the security sector. The collection of works, on the other hand, is significant because it shows Serbia's desire to become an active participant in European security system, as Djurisic concluded.

Madis Vainoma, Acting Head of Democratization Department, OSCE Mission to Serbia, said that the creation of newsletters is very useful because it provides basic information about the defense system in Serbia and the structure of the defense. It also facilitates communication, because it contains a unique directory of contacts in the Ministry and the SAF.
The Head of the Military Academy, Brigadier General Mladen Vuruna believes that the Bulletin was published at the right moment, representing a kind of dictionary that will help delegates to get to know the structure and functioning of the defense.

Deputy Commander of SAF GS Joint Operations Command Brigadier General Milan Mojsilovic said that this information bulletin could contribute to better understanding of the structure of the military and understanding of strategies and documents.

Bulletin and the collection were published with the support of the OSCE Mission in Belgrade.
