OSCE delegation visits SAF units

In the House of Guards a welcome ceremony was held yesterday for the representative of OSCE member states. On this occasion the members of the Guard performed an exercir, following which the State Secretary in Mod Tanja Miscevic, PhD and the Assistant Minister of Foreign Zoran Cvejic addressed the present. The ceremony was attended by the representatives of MoD and SAF.

Our obligations stemming from the international documents we have signed testify to the fact that special attention should be paid to the arms control, disarmament and monitoring the development of new weapons, as State Secreatry MMiscevic stated, adding that the membership of Serbia in OSCE, the Vienna declaration as well as signing the Dayton agreement bind us to such activities.

According to her, the Verification center in the MoD Defense Policy Sector is in charge of organizing such activities and acting as a host, including participation in verification missions according to the aforementioned documents with respect to third parties.

- Today’s activity is not something we encounter frequently, and is not present in the public, yet it shows that we have made significant progress, and we have received praises or organizing such an event. To the best of my knowledge, our country’s approach was taken as a model of arms control and verification, that will be applied in other regional countries where conflicts are yet to be solved, as State Secretary Miscevic emphasized.

Assistant Minister of Foreign Zoran Vujic estimated that the Republic of Serbia was paying special attention to the inter-regional cooperation in terms of security and building trust between neighbours. As a signatory of the Dayton agreement and the Sub Regional Arms Control Agreement, our country has established excellent cooperation with other signatories of this document, which had additionally contributed to stabilization and security in the region.

During their three-day visit, the OSCE delegation will also visit the 204th aviation base and special brigade in Pancevo. Based on the obligations stemming from the Vienna Document 1999, for the purpose of building trust and security in Europe, each OSCE member has to organize a visit to an aviation base and a military compound once every five years.

A cocktail in the grand hall of the old HQ will be held this evening for the OSCE delegation.
