Laying wreaths to mark the Victory day



Serbian President Boris Tadic, on the occasion of Victory Day - 9 May laid a commemorative wreath at the Monument of the Unknown Soldier at Avala mountain.

President Tadic wrote the following words in the memorial book: "Serbia has always been against fascism, racism and human evil, then today and always. Auschwitz, Treblinka, Jasenovac, Jadovno, Kragujevac, there is no excuse to forget these names. May the heroes have eternal glory".

The wreath at the Monument of the Unknown Soldier was also laid by a delegation of the the Ministry of Defense and the Army of Serbia, headed by Deputy Chief of Staff Maj. Gen. Milan Bjelica.

Major-General Milan Bjelica wrote the following in the memorial book: "We are proud to recall all known and unknown heroes who gave their lives in the struggle against fascism, freedom and prosperity of future generations. They knew about the values they fought. Long live the Army of Serbia! Long live the Republic of Serbia ".

The wreaths were also laid by Delegations of the Ministry of Defense and the Army of Serbia, the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, the city government and diplomatic representatives of Russia, Belarus and Azerbaijan who laid wreaths at the Monument to Soviet veterans of Avala. Russian delegation was headed by Russian Ambassador to Belgrade Alexander Konuzin.

On the occasion of Victory Day on fascism representatives of the Serbian Army, the Mayor of Belgrade Aleksandar Antic, State Secretary in the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs Zoran Martinovic and Russian Ambassador to Serbia Alexander Konuzin laid wreaths at the Monument to the Liberators of Belgrade and the Soviet soldier monument .

Wreaths were also laid by representatives of the embassies of Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Belarus, as well as associations of fighters from the Liberation War. The ceremony was attended by several hundred people, among whom were veterans from World War II.
