The Day of the Guard marked
Guard commander Colonel Milos Todorovic said that members of this elite unit of our armed forces are ready to resist at any time the greatest possible risks and defend the most cherished and sacred values of our fatherland.
-
By celebrating St. George’s Day, as the patron saint’s day of the Guard, this unit continues its 181 year long tradition. On this day in 1830 by the orders of the Serbian ruler Prince Milos, the first company of the Knez (principle) Guard was lined up, which consisted of 120 mature and most prominent young men from all the districts (nahija) in the Serbian principality.
Congratulations on the occasion of Guard units were also sent to members by the Serbian President Boris Tadic, Defense Minister Dragan Sutanovac and Chief of General Staff general Miloje Miletic.
