MoD and SAF members achieve notable results at Belgrade marathon



Professional soldier Ksenija Bubnjevic finished second in the championship of Serbia in the half marathon which was held today at the 24th Belgrade's half marathon. Her result was 1:28:00 and she came to the finishing line arrived after the winner of the championship, Olivera Jevtic, who also won the third place at the Belgrade half marathon (1:13:12).

Cadet Nevena Jovanovic also achieved notable results in the national championship in the half marathon and she came in fifth (1:36:38).

In men’s discipline, in half-marathon best competitors from the Ministry of Defense and the Serbian Armed Forces (MOD and SAF) was professional soldier Mirko Stankovic from the Training Command which crossed the finish line sixth in the championship of Serbia (1:15:44).

Students of the military high school ran the half-marathon, too forming two relay teams and both teams finished the race before the other 12 teams. This was another proof of good preparations of athletes for this year's military events, which were confirmed in the best way in yesterday’s marathon.

59 members of MoD and SAF took part in competition, eight of them being women. They all ran the half marathon race, except for cadet Dejan Danicic, who competed in the marathon.

This year's winners of the Belgrade Marathon were Ethiopian Order Selasye Cegaye (2:14:41), and in women’s marathon Vaitaka Nijambura (2:34:31) of Kenya. The half-marathon winners were from Ethiopia too – Bikila Adugna Tekeli in the men's competition, time (1:03:46), and the women's Reda Etihu Kiros (1:12:35).

Yesterday, 1836 competitors from 35 countries participated in the 24th Belgrade Marathon. Promoter of the marathon was the legendary Rosa Mota of Portugal, who has won the most trophies in marathon competitions.
