State Secretary Jovicic's statement regarding the granting of commemorative medals



"The military commemorative medals are awarded based on the facts in the career soldiers, such as participation in peacekeeping operations, being a member of the army a number of years, jubilees and the participation and injury in combat operations.
Medals in the same or similar categories are assigned to all militariesand there is no reason why these medals would not be awarded to the members of SAF.

Members of the SAF receive a commemorative medal for performing their duties honestly and professionally, and if in the course of their military career they participated in combat operations, it is understood that in his military profession they have acted in a way that distinguishes them from all those who appear beforethe ICTY.

The issue of commemorative medals should not be seen as a method to reverse hypothesis as regardas thenature of combat operations in the former Yugoslavia and the question of heritage and heritage of the former JNA.

Since some misinterpretations of awarding military-memorial medal have appeared in the public , please refer to Article 30 of the Regulations for military medals and commemorative monuments, military, issued in the Official Military Gazette, No: 26 as of 11 10.2010.

Article 30

Military memorial medal for participation in combat operations in the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and the Republic of Serbia may be granted to a professional member of the Army of Serbia, if they meet the following criteria:

1) that they have participated in combat operations carried out from 26 June 1991 to 19 May 1992 and from 23 March 1998 to 26 June 1999 or between 23 March 2001 to 30 June 2001, as evidenced by the decision of competent officers in terms of recognizing the accelarated insurance in the ssaid period 12/24 or by a confirmation issued by a competent officer under Article 141 Law on the Serbian Army;

2) that no disciplinary proceedings have been launched against them for serious violation of military discipline or criminal proceedings or proceedings for a criminal offense that is prosecuted ex officio and that they have never been convicted for such acts before the appropriate court in the Republic of Serbia or other international tribunal.
