Cooperation with Austria



State Secretary, Ministry of Defence, Tanja Miscevic, PhD visited the Republic of Austria from 30 March to 1 April 2011 , at the invitation of the Chief Directorate for Security Policy, Federal Ministry of Defence and Sports of the Republic of Austria Major General Johann Pucher.

It was noted that cooperation in the defense was very well developed with the need for its further qualitative improvement in education and training, NBC, logistics, military medicine and preparation for participation in peacekeeping operations. Federal Ministry of Defence and Sports of the Republic of Austria will continue to assist in the process of defense reform, regional initiatives and projects, adoption of standards from the Partnership for Peace Programme and the EU integration.

During the talks she had with the Political Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Johannes Kirli and Secretary General of OSCE, Marc Perrin de Brishbann, Dr. Miscevic said that EU accession was Serbia’s priority objective and that Serbia was looking forward to Austria’s continued support, and its experiences as a neutral state in peacekeeping operations are of great importance to the MoD and SAF.

Secretary of State Miscevic gave an expose at the Forum for Security Cooperation and the OSCE and also participated in a panel discussion at the National Defense Academy of Austria on the theme "The reform process of the defense system." On the last day of her visit to Austria, professor Miscevic met with the president of the Parliament’s Committee on Safety of the Republic of Austria, Dr. Peter Fichtenbauer. Both sides exchanged views on political and security situation in the region and Serbia, especially on the role of parliament in the security sector reform. Secretary of State thanked the members of the Austrian Parliament for their support to speed up the procedure for the ratification of the Stabilization and Association Agreement.
